Local Happenings

The weather is becoming cooler and fall is officially here. This is one of our favorite times of year here in Boise, and it also means Halloween is just around the corner. One of the best Halloween past times in Idaho is the Haunted Woods!

The 4th Hunger Bowl is taking place at Bronco Stadium on Saturday, October 1st. The theme for this year’s event is “Fans with Cans”, and takes place before the game against the Nevada Wolfpack. This year’s annual food and funds drive couldn’t come at a better time, as there is a statewide shortage of extra canned food and donations for those less fortunate.

The Harvest Festival at the FarWest Garden Center on State Street is taking place on October 8th, from 10AM to 4PM. With fall in full swing and the weather turning, it is time to get in the full spirit of fall. The leaves will soon begin changing and the weather will begin to cool off.

Join the festivities for a number of activities, including:

On Saturday, October 29th, experience Halloween with Zoo Boise’s “Boo at the Zoo” event. This event begins at 10AM and is a great way to experience Halloween fun with the whole family! Aside from getting to see all of the wonderful animals at the Zoo, there will be costumed characters passing out candy, costume contests for all ages, a bat toss, pumpkin patch photos, and face painting!

The 4th edition Art in the Bar will take place at the Knitting Factory Concert House on Saturday, October 8th. This event begins at noon and runs until 10PM. Art in the Bar is an opportunity for individuals to meet and shop for the works of art from more than 40 talented local artists.

The Boise State home schedule kicked off this past Saturday with a home game against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in Bronco Stadium.

The rest of the home schedule is as follows:

The Boise State Broncos are beginning another season, their last with Quarterback Kellen Moore at the helm, and once again there are high hopes for the Broncos. Going into the season ranked #5, Boise made a big splash taking down the 19th ranked Georgia Bulldogs 35-21 in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta last Saturday. This was a great start to what is expected to be another magical season for the Broncos.

What is a locavore? A locavore is someone who primarily eats food that is locally produced, usually within a 100-mile radius of his or her residence. The locavore movement is one of sustainability and becoming more environmentally conscious.

Art in the Park is a Boise tradition that takes place in Julia Davis Park. The event features a wide array of artists, both local and national, where you can view and purchase artwork and other wares. This year, Art in the Park ran from September 9th-11th.

This year, Art in the Park showcased 236 artists, including 53 new artists and 67 Idaho artists. There were also over 40 food vendors and a number of live entertainers, including jazz in the garden. This event was a great opportunity to get out and explore many Idaho artists and their works.

The Idaho Botanical Gardens is hosting “Movies for a Cause,” giving viewers the chance to enjoy classic movies and help a great cause at the same time. “Movies for a Cause” was created by the Holland and Hart foundation. Funds raised at “Movies for a Cause” are used to support youth and adult education programs, school tours, day camps, and classes that encourage an appreciation of gardening, horticulture, and conservation.
